Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was nice to be back with the students this week! Here is what is happening in our classroom…

Math

We finished our first multiplication and division unit today with a test. I will be sending them home next week. If you would like to sign it and return it, I can keep it in your child’s cumulative folder for the year which you will get at the end of the year. You could also keep it if that is easier for you. Our next unit is also on multiplication and division! Notice when you use these operations in your everyday life and share them with your child.

We have been practicing fact fluency in the classroom in a variety of ways. If you would like to practice at home, you can use xtramath.org which is an app and website. Let me know if you need another copy of your child’s password or if you have trouble signing in.

Reading

We are wrapping up our unit on making inferences today. See the attached letter about how you can support this learning at home. Our next unit is on Wondering and Questioning. To learn more, go to this link: https://ccclearninghub.org/content/pdfs/mm3e/grade3/unit3/MM3e_TM_G3_U3_W5_BLM1_8103.pdf

Reminder: Your child should be reading for at least 20 minutes each night (or in the morning before school). Please let me know if your child is having trouble finding books that interest them to read and I am happy to help. You could also encourage them to bring home books from their book bin.

Writing

This week we have been working on revising and proofreading our personal narratives. We focused on different elements of grammar, like sentence fragments and run on sentences. We will share the final drafts when they are finished after next week.

Social Studies

We just started our unit on the Pilgrims and Puritans. We started by learning about the voyage on the Mayflower and now we are learning about what the original Plimoth settlement looked like. Find out what the first houses that the settlers built were like.

Supplies

Thank you so much for all of the pencil donations! Our classroom should be set for the year on pencils. I really appreciate your kindness and generosity. If you are interested in donating anything else, we are looking for paper towels and cleaning wipes. Thanks!

Have a nice weekend,

Jessica Harwood
